» TRC - Seaside Sketch
Title: Seaside Sketch
Fandom: Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
Rating: PG
Genre: General/Fluff
Character(s): TRC!Kamui and TRC!Subaru
Disclaimer: Not mine unfortunately.
Warnings: First time writer? No, not really, but I took a very long break so it might as well be. But I never did write the twins so it counts. In a way.
Summary: The simplest thing can bring a picture to life. The problem is finding out what it is.
Notes: I am such an idiot. Even though I based the entire fic on this title, the first time I typed it, I kept on typing "Seaside Shack". I wonder if it's a sign that I should go back to the Kingdom Hearts fandom.
Word Count: 718
Accompanying Music: CLANNAD/Tomoyo After - 同じ高みへ

Kamui leans back, his arms behind him, propping him up. The sand feels warm beneath his hands. He sighs softly as he scoops up a handful of sand and watches as it sifts through his fingers.

White sandy beach. Clear blue sky. Gentle ocean waves. This place is the picture of paradise. Still, Kamui wishes to leave soon. They have stayed in this world for much too long for his liking. The only reason he is still here is because of Subaru.

Subaru who has taken an immediate liking to the warm sun and the ocean breeze. Who has found the pension they’re staying in charming and delightful. Who has developed an interest in drawing here (the sketchbook Subaru had gotten for himself is already half-filled with sketches the last time Kamui took a look at it). And who also has disappeared suddenly this morning and is currently somewhere that Kamui can’t pinpoint.

He can feel Subaru nearby, but it wasn’t enough. He deeply dislikes it when Subaru runs off somewhere without him knowing. Shouldn’t he be there with him instead? If Subaru is hiding from him though, there is probably a good reason for it. It didn’t make him feel any less apprehensive, though.

Another sigh as he lets his head fall back, his eyes closing automatically, the breeze dancing over him.

The only good thing about this place, Kamui thinks, is how little people there is. Even at this hour, the beach is completely devoid of people besides himself. Not that he minds.

He cracks open an eye as a shadow falls over him. He blinks up; a brief flash of surprise crosses his face. Subaru is leaning over him, a smile gracing his expression.

“Enjoying yourself, Kamui?” Subaru inquires, the smile never once wavering.

“Hn,” is the only answer Kamui provides, as he picks himself off the sand and dusting himself off. He looks at Subaru, ready to ask him where he’s been when something Subaru is holding behind his back caught his eye.

Subaru follows Kamui’s gaze curiously.

“O-Oh.” Subaru laughs lightly as he takes the sketchbook out from behind him. “I came over here to show you my newest drawing.”

Kamui raises an eyebrow in question. “Oh?”

“Yes… Now let me find it….” He flips through the pages, lips pursed as he tries to find the right one. “Ah, here it is,” he holds it out to Kamui, “Tell me what you think?”

Kamui gives Subaru a tiny smile before looking at the sketch. He looks it over, admiring the simple detail, and finding the sketch to be quite familiar—the swaying palm tree, the circling seagulls, the beach itself with Kamui sitting right in the middle looking out at the ocean.

Kamui keeps his face calm as he gives Subaru another questioning look. Subaru smiles sheepishly in response.

He turns and points to a tree behind Kamui. “I was walking past there and saw you sitting here… So I climbed that and…”

Kamui gives a small laugh as Subaru trails off.

“Hn, I see…” He directs his gaze back to the sketch, looking at it in a half-criticizing manner. “It’s nice, but don’t you think it’s missing something?”

Subaru gives him a confused look. “Like what?”

Kamui hands the sketchbook back. “I’ll let you figure that out yourself,” he says, a tiny smirk on his lips, before making his way across the beach and back to their room with Subaru staring after him.

The next day Kamui finds himself in the exact same spot, in the exact same situation. Earlier this morning Subaru had disappeared once again and Kamui is unable to find him. With nothing better to do, Kamui made his way down to the beach once again and there he is now, staring out at the waves.

“I think I figured it out,” Subaru’s voice rings out from the side, causing Kamui to turn his head.

“Is that so?” As Subaru approaches, Kamui notices Subaru wasn’t carrying his sketchbook. He turns an amused glance to Subaru. “Aren’t you going to show me?”

Subaru laughs. “I am showing you,” he answered as he got close enough.

He lowers himself onto the sand next to Kamui, drawing his knees up halfway, arms wrapped loosely around them.

“There. Picture perfect as they say.”

Key's animation music always makes me nostalgic, even if I hadn't seen Clannad yet. I've actually read this awhile ago, but the combination of the soothing music and scenery drew me back for rereads~

It does. I love all their music. It's always so beautiful. I didn't pick the original version, but the piano version though. And I really think you should watch Clannad. It's really quite lovely and I'm very much in love with it.

<333;;; Ah, that sort of makes me embarrassed. I'm glad you liked it enough to read it again a second time.

I should X3 I've only watched Air TV, which is still my favorite, and the older version of Kanon (the 2006 remake wasn't out yet then) I -have- seen promo videos for Clannad; te animation is too beautiful

I really loved the animation and the arcs of the girls are wonderful too. I was about to play the game, but I didn't have enough time to yet. I'm always compelled to watch them all again, but it's hard to find the time, alas~

Umm...I'm sorry if the question sounds random. You have beautiful vampire!subaru and kamui icons...may I ask where you get the pictures from? (Not the icons) Is it from CLAMP's illustrations collection or are they fanarts?

Oh, it's fine. It's actually from the manga. The icons were colored.
